As the human population continues to grow, so does our impact on the environment. In fact, recent research has shown that three-quarters of Earth’s land surface is under pressure from human activity. In this short film, spoken word artist Prince Ea makes a powerful case for protecting the planet and challenges the human race to create a sustainable future. Winner of the Film4Climate competition organized by the Connect4Climate Program of the World Bank (film4climate.net). ![]() A S.A.V.E. member asked the question, “Which is better: boxed water or bottled water?” So we sought an answer from Adam Cassi, Director of Keep Toledo and Lucas County Beautiful and our speaker in our 2020-2021 Lecture Series. His answer? Boxed water is better. Reverse osmosis removes all (known) microplastics, so it is going to be healthier than water in plastic. The container is 100% recyclable. Curbside, just throw it in. If you are taking it to a drop-off location, it would go in with other “containers” (so with the plastic and cans, not with paper or cardboard). Only slightly longer answer: Any single use product is not good for the environment. Switch to a reusable container and if you are worried about microplastics and chemicals in your water, get a filter for your home (it will save you money in the long run). If you have to make a choice between a single use plastic water bottle and boxed water, the boxed option is more environmentally friendly. ![]() Like other organizations, S.A.V.E. has been impacted by the current public health concerns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. S.A.V.E. decided to continue our lectures by taking advantage of the Lourdes University Professional ZOOM Account offered to the organization. This made it possible for others to view our presentations without travel and personal assemblage. Starting in December, S.A.V.E. decided to record our lectures for public viewing via YouTube. We invite you to subscribe to our YouTube Channel, where previous S.A.V.E. lectures may be viewed on your smart device or computer. You can also access the recorded lectures directly here on our website. |
